Prof Aard J. Groen will discuss the role of uncertainty in business and economics, especially looking at the role of entrepreneurship. Foreseeing the future is only possible to some extent, and crises lead to real uncertainty as innovation also can do. How do entrepreneurs handle uncertainty and how they can be supported? Prof. Groen will discuss the typical processes of entrepreneurs handling (sometimes self-created) uncertainty. Based on social system theory he will go into the character of entrepreneurial processes and the possible outcomes. Furthermore, the role of supporting startups and scale ups and the role of universities and the government will be examined.
Learning for foresight: the science and practice of harnessing creativity.
As we emerge from a global pandemic that has shaken our communities and our economies, it is widely acknowledged that business practices of the future will require a combination of foresight and built-in agility. The most adaptive businesses, with the most comprehensive scenario planning, are likely to drive recovery. For some years the entrepreneurial learning community have been investigating how this can be achieved, linking creative thinking to innovation, and innovation to designerly ways of educating. This discussion will offer insights into this phenomenon, explain contemporary practice, and introduce the neuroscience that supports the approaches that are evolving.
